While the deep sense of shock and sadness pervades throughout the camp from the tragic loss of one of our own, Luke Fleurs, Kaizer Chiefs will nevertheless go ahead and honour their DStv Premiership fixture against Chippa United on Saturday afternoon.


The game in East London will be Amakhosi’s first there in five years, before that their last visit came against Tornado FC in 2019 in the Nedbank Cup. Apart from that game, Chiefs have not played many games in the Eastern Cape city, with the one previous to that was way back in 2005, against Bush Bucks.


Coach Cavin Johnson and his technical team have had the tough task of getting the team physically and mentally ready during a challenging week for the players, management and the technical team.


The game, which is expected to be sold out, will be an interesting battle with the home team, Chippa United, high in confidence after their 2-0 midweek win against Cape Town Spurs. Chiefs, on the other hand, will be determined to make amends for their home loss to Stellenbosch on Tuesday night.


The Kaizer Chiefs players, to a man, have pledged to dedicate the encounter to their fallen comrade, Luke Fleurs, who was expected to travel with the team to the Eastern Cape this weekend.


There are few tickets left for the encounter between the Glamour Boys and the Chilli Boys, on sale through TicketPro online at www.ticketpros.co.za or Spar and Boxer Supermarkets, PostNet, Shell and Sasol filling stations at R100 per ticket.

With the winter kick-off times in operation from April, the match will kick off at 15:00 on Saturday at Buffalo Park Stadium in East London.
